Coast is an important part of Oregon's history as one of the state's oldest minority-owned firms, a strong member of the business community, and a symbol of success for Portland.

Celebrating its 50th year in service in 2007, Coast Inc. is now trasitioning into its third generation of leadership.

Over the years, the company has been recognized for its success in business and support of the local community. Coast Industries, Inc. has received many awards including the Governor's Award for Small Business Achievement, presented by the Oregon Department of Economic Development and the 2006 Service Contractor of the Year Award, presented by the Oregon Minority Enterprise Development Committee.

Locally, Coast has assisted many former employees to either launch their own businesses or secure training to prepare them for career advancement. The company and its employees are very active with many organizations in the community such as St. Andrew's Nativity School, Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, Oregon Donor Program, Salvation Army Church Basketball League, Urban League of Portland, and many other programs that provide mentorship for young students. Coast is also a member of OAME (Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneurs).

The Oregon Economic Development Department has described Coast as "a unique model of black entrepreneurship in a highly competitive industry."
